Irrigation
Turf variety, soil profile, weather, and maintenance are elements to consider when irrigating turf grass. These elements work together in supplying and storing water for plant consumption. Discoloration and wilt are visual signs that drought stress is occurring and water is needed. Proper irrigation should occur at the initial sign of stress. Reframe from short, shallow watering cycles. A correct cycle will add 1" of water and replenish 6-8 inches of moisture in the soil. Generally, one or two cycles per week are sufficient. The most efficient and effective time to irrigate is sunset to sunrise. Monitor turf closely and irrigate accordingly.
